The stunning panoramas will take your breath away, and the rich history of the place, including a small museum, will capture your imagination. Take about 90 minutes to enjoy the views, explore the historical ruins and take the perfect photos.
Afternoon at the beach
It's time to relax on one of the nearby beaches. Whether you prefer a secluded cove, a rocky shore or a long sandy stretch, there's a perfect spot waiting for you.
The Black Sea is known for its gentle waves, making it ideal for a refreshing swim. Just be careful of the occasional undercurrents.
Mussel farm "Dulboka"
No visit to the area is complete without a meal at the Dalboka Mussel Farm. Head to the restaurant on your right to enjoy an authentic and delicious meal.
Enjoy incredible dishes with fresh mussels, including a unique mussel dessert, as well as Black Sea fish, fresh salads and, of course, fish soup.
The rustic seaside atmosphere, with tables right next to the water, adds to the charm of this unforgettable lunch.
The Palace in Balchik
Queen Maria visited Balchik in 1921 and fell in love with the place. A little later, she decided to build her summer residence between the sea and the rocks. The palace and gardens were designed to blend in with nature without harming it. Chapels, fountains and buildings in different architectural styles were built.
The complex includes several villas, an administrative building and a gallery. One of the symbols is the marble throne overlooking the sea.
A park complex was created in 1926, and the Botanical Garden in 1955. Today it is home to over 2,000 species of plants. Particularly impressive are the collections of cacti, palms, and exotic trees, including the metasequoia, a species considered extinct.
The residence is a museum with personal belongings, photographs, paintings and ceramics. A walk through this oasis is a journey into history, art and nature.
The gardens and alleys
In this kingdom of flowers, Queen Mary gives a name to every garden and alley.
Here you can walk through the “Wine Alley”, the “Alley of the Centuries”, the “Hanging Terraces”, the “Divine Garden”, the “English Garden”. Some of the most attractive are the “Garden with the Water Mirror”, the “Palace Bridge” and the “Bridge of Sighs”.
The complex was completed in 1936, but Queen Maria died two years later in Sinaia (Romania). By her will, her heart was placed in a small golden coffin and returned to the Assumption Chapel in the palace. However, after the return of this territory (Southern Dobrudja) back to Bulgaria, the queen's heart was returned to a castle in Romania.
The villa where the queen once lived houses a museum exhibit displaying her personal belongings, photographs and documents, a collection of original paintings and icons, and ancient ceramics found during archaeological excavations.
The hall that once housed the residence's library is now a gallery. It exhibits paintings by Bulgarian and foreign artists.
